Penis Anatomy

Penis is a very crucial part of a male body and is considered to be a very sensitive and delicate part of the body. The study of various parts of the penis is considered as penis anatomy. Penis anatomy means the study of the working and the structure of the penis in detail. The penis is made up of spongy tissues and is contains three different cylinders out of which the two cylinders form the major portion of the penis and these two cylinders are paired together whereas the third cylinder is one the lower end of the penis which consists of urethra.

The urethra is a tube in the penis which helps the person to pass the urine and also the sperms. Corpora cavernosa is one of the chamber or cylinder of penis which helps the person to get an erection. The blood sends the penis during the sexual arousal gets stored in the corpora cavernosa and they stores around 90% of the blood. Better the blood holding capacity of the corpora cavernosa better the erection the person can achieve.

Tunica albuginea bands together the two columns of corpora cavernosa which lies next to each other at the dorsal side. Corpora spongiosum is one such penile tissue which lies between the two columns of the corpora cavernosa in the ventral side.

The enlarged shape of the corpora spongiosum forms the penis glans which is at the end of the penis. The glanses have a covering called the foreskin which is a loose fold of skin and pull back to expose the glans. Foreskin protects the glans from becoming dry and thus it helps the glans to stay away from soreness. The penis does not contain any kind of bones or muscles it is totally made up of spongy tissues.
